Types of Scar Revision Surgeries 

Z Plasty – This technique reorients the scar. The scar is cut into triangular flaps in the shape of a Z or a W and then re positioned to follow the natural creases and lines that your skin has. This helps in making your scar less visible. It also help ease the tightness around contracture scars.

Punch Grafts- Punch grafting technique punches out the scar along with the core skin underneath it. It is then covered with a graft of unscarred skin from another part of the body. This technique is widely used when the scar covers a smaller area but is very deep.

Scar Incision – In the Scar incision method, the existing scar is cut out and the skin is sewed back to close the incision. This leaves behind a scar that is not as prominent as your previous scar.

Skin Flaps – This is similar to punch grafting with the difference being that it is done on a superficial level. The scar is cut out from the upper layer of the skin and is covered with a flap of skin that is grafted from a healthy area of skin.

The surgeries are performed after administering anesthesia to the patient.

Any surgery for that matter comes with risks. Scar revision surgeries are simple cosmetic procedures that are mostly successful. Sometimes, if not performed correctly, they can lead to bleeding, blood clotting and infections. Recovery Time 

Once you are through with the surgery, you will have a dressing around the incision that was performed. There can be light swelling and bruising around the incision. You may also experience some irritation around the operated area. Make sure to not scratch or itch that area. All these effects should go away within a couple of weeks of the treatment.

You would have to visit the doctor to get your dressing removed and the healing checked.Do not expect instant results. It will take a couple of months for the scarred area to completely reconstruct itself and improve in appearance.
