5 Steps to Learn the Marcel Wave Perfectly
We have divided the entire process of creating the Marcel wave hairstyle into 5 simple and easy steps. If you can follow them religiously, getting your flapper on will be a piece of cake for you. So, let us dig into the step-by-step procedure of the Marcel wave:
First Step
Before starting the styling process, you need to remember that this classic hairdo does not look good on dry hair. The more your locks are smooth and shiny, the greater your Marcel wave looks. So, start with conditioning your semi-dry or dry hair properly. While picking the hair conditioning spray, make sure that you go for a ‘leave-in’ one. They work the best for styling preparation. Once you are done with spray conditioning your locks, brush it down with the bristle brush.
Second Step
Now, it is time to set the hair by using hot rollers. Hence, take the rat tail comb and create a deep side part. Place the rollers under the hair and roll accordingly. Do it for all your hair so that it, irrespective of texture and mass, gets set easily. Choosing hot rollers for your hair might be a bit tricky as there are lots of sizes with different working times. But it is advised that you opt for 1.5” to 2” ones and leave them at least 30 to 45 minutes in your hair for maximum benefits. After rolling the hair, brush it out with the bristle brush once again.

Third Step
Take the rat tail comb and divide the larger section of hair into two segments. Begin right from the center of the side part lying over you crown and reach the front side of any of your ears. Sweep the hair from one side to another across your forehead and pin it at the back of the ear by using the duckbill clip. It would help you get a neat and tidy look by keeping the hair out of the way.
Fourth Step
When doing the Marcel wave, you need to ensure that the heat applied to the hair is not causing damage to it. Therefore, take a high quality heat styling protection spray and use it on the pinned front section of your hair. Wait for some time so that the hair becomes completely dry.
Fifth Step
Finally, grab your curling iron and start styling your hair in the Marcel Wave. Hold the iron tightly on the hair present right above the eyebrow for 10 to 15 seconds. This way, you will get your first wave. After that, turn the iron down and hold it to the hair lying under the first wave and create the next wave. Repeat both of these steps until all your hair in the front section is turned into beautiful waves.
