Beauty Tips for Darker Skin Tones
Gone are the days when women wanted to cover up their dark skin tone and attempt to look fairer than their actual complexion. These days, women like to flaunt their dark and dusky skin what with the fashion scene being ruled by many dusky beauties. If you have a darker skin tone, then there are certain things you need to keep in mind while going through your beauty regimen and while doing makeup. We give you beauty tips for darker skin tones to make you stand out and grab all the attention.
Before you start
Do not attempt to make your skin a couple of shades lighter with foundation or makeup. It tends to create an artificial white patch when lighter foundation is blended on darker skin. Also, remember to keep your skin clean and shine free all the time. Use a good oil controlling face wash and keep a few wet tissues handy to soak in the excess oil from the skin.
Sunscreen
If you think that you would not need a sunscreen since you have dark skin, you are wrong. You are less likely to suffer a sunburn but you most certainly need a sunscreen to prevent damage from UVA and UVB rays. Remember to always use a broad spectrum sunscreen before you step out.
Moisturizer
Make sure that your skin is well moisturized. Pick a moisturizer that suits your skin type and gives your foundation a smooth base to work on. If your skin is overtly dry and peeling off, it will leave unsightly white patches which you certainly don’t want. However, make sure that the moisturizer is light and does not leave your skin shiny.
Base or Foundation
Pick a foundation that matches your skin tone. If a single color does not do the trick, blend two colors to get the right tone. Rather than testing it on the hand, test the foundation directly on your face or on the jawline. Make sure that it blends well and covers all the imperfections while also looking natural. Liquid foundations are a better bet than powder or cream foundations since you can blend two colors more easily with liquid foundations. Also, they are great since they don’t get too oily.

Concealer
If you have any scars or marks, then use an orange based concealer to hide the imperfections. A white or a beige concealer will stand out and make the skin look patchy.
Lips
Stay away from nudes and light colors if you have a dark skin tone. Stick to colors like deep plum, wine, red, shades of pink and burgundy. Brown is another color you could avoid. Go in for lip gloss if your skin is flawless. If you are using gloss, try something in pink or coral undertones.
Blush
As with the lipsticks, when it comes to blush also, go in for a blush in colors like coral, peach or pink, that will add some color to your skin and stay away from browns that will make you look pale. Apply the color on the apples and blend it towards the hairline. You could add some drama for an evening out by dusting some gold color on your cheekbones.

Eyebrows
Darker skin needs an eyebrow filler so that your brows can stand out against your complexion. So pick a medium or dark brown eyebrow filler powder or an eyebrow pencil and work it onto your eyebrows in smooth strokes so that they are filled up and highlighted.
Eyes
Don’t shy away from experimenting with eye shadows if you have a dusky complexion. You can create a smoky eyed look and carry it off with grace during the day. If you are out for the evening, then you should try bronze and golden hues since your skin tone can pull off those dramatic colors with ease. Burgundy, wine and prunes would also work well for you during the day.
Pressed Powder
Once you are done with all the makeup, remember to seal the entire look with a pressed powder that matches your skin tone. Darker skin tones look unsightly when they turn oily, so make sure to carry your compact with you always to keep touching up on the shine.
As with all makeup, remember to keep it minimal. Make sure your skin is well prepped before you put on any makeup. Go ahead and embrace your dusky complexion and highlight your best features and get set to dazzle.
